Sofia's Last Ambulance
A FILM BY ILIAN METEV
This is a film about the regular working day of a doctor, nurse and driver working in the emergency ambulance service in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria. In a city where 13 ambulances struggle to serve a population nearing two million, Krassi is our unlikely hero: chain-smoking and saving lives in a nonstop 48-hour shift.
Krassi is the doctor of the team and is ready for the nightshift. The bags he carries contain precious medical equipment. Yet, this he bought from his own salary, as the state does not have money to pay for it. In the next 12 hours he will be sent all around the city. There will be no break. He and the team will be threatened and always late, trying to fix too many holes with so little they have. Struggling against an avalanche of absurdities of a crumbling medical system and scarcely earning enough to make a living, these three are still trying to save lives.
