Ilian Metev's documentary "Sofia's Last Ambulance" has won the Best Documentary Award at the 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The Jury awarded the Grand Prix for Best Documentary Film over 30 minutes because of the film's "courageous formal approach revealing urgent conditions in contemporary urban life". The Jury was chaired by American producer Ron Yerxa. The other members were the Director of the European Film Festival in Seville, José Luis Cienfuegos, the Italian director and producer Tizza Covi, the German independent film programmer and writer Pamela Jahn, and the Czech producer Jiří Konečný.
On Thursday "Sofia's Last Ambulance" has won the France 4 Visionary Award at the 51st Semaine de la Critique Cannes 2012. Designed to recognize new filmmaking talent, the France 4 Visionary Award was presented for the first time this year. The Jury was headed by French filmmaker Céline Sciamma and included four young film critics from Belgium, USA, South Korea and India.
